Industry 4.0 and IoT

Idus and IoT, here are the possibilities from a maintenance perspectice.

When you are ready to integrate your equipment with your CMMS in order to optimize your operation further finding a perfect balance between operational safety and resources, we will be here to help you.

You can integrate your SCADA system, PLC System, sensors et cetera letting them send information to the CMMS creating work orders and fault reports. You might also want to integrate your CMMS with your ERP system, OEE or MES systen. We use standardized solutions to meet your requirements.

What is IoT?

Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 remains a much popular subject. New technical solutions open up for new opportunities to improve competitiveness. Units and things can be connected and thus providing valuable insights regarding what to improve.

However, it can be hard to determine where this new technique can be applied within the production facility. It’s even harder to determine where maintenance come in to the picture from your own perspective. That’s why we would like to seize the opportunity to sort out how Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 can be applied for maintenance purposes.

Supervision and automated work orders

IoT can help maintenance departments to reach to the next level by improving their preventive maintenance from mainly calender based maintenance to condition based or predictive maintenance. There is technical support for machine learning, automated fault deviation and condition monitoring.

The maintenance department can be provided with powerful tools to make more factual and proactive decisions regarding the plant equipment. The maintenance operation can be more cost effective and synchronize better with the production.

Improved flows of information

Let us take an example. A bearing is about to fail and signals it by abnormal vibrations. Instead of waiting until the deviation is picked up manually by someone a signal is sent directly to the CMMS where the signal generates a fault report.

A notification alerts the maintenance department that something needs to be done about the piece of equipment so that someone can go out to determine if something needs to be done before the planned maintenance downtime or not.

We recently got the question whether vibration measurements could generate work orders or fault reports within their CMMS and the answer is yes, it most certainly is possible. The technique is available, as often is the case the only thing you need is to take the first step and be ready to leverage the new technique.

System of systems

The CMMS can be on of the key components in your process and compose the location where events in your operation will filter our work orders.
